Find out what will change! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Meal allowance rises to \u20ac6\/day for public sector workers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ordinance no. 107-A\/2023 of April 18th updates the value of the <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/employee-benefits\/meal-allowance-everything-you-need-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meal allowance<\/a> paid to public sector workers with retroactive effect from January 1st, 2023. This amount <strong>increases from \u20ac5.20\/day to \u20ac6.00\/day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This increase also raises the amount exempt from taxation, which continues to depend on the format in which the allowance is granted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If paid in <strong>cash<\/strong>, the fee is \u20ac6.00\/day;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If it is paid by <strong>social voucher or card<\/strong>, the exempt amount will be <strong>9.60\u20ac\/day<\/strong> (whereas until now it was 8.32\u20ac). This is an increase of \u20ac1.28\/day. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This allows companies to give their employees <strong>more liquidity for food expenses without increasing their tax burden<\/strong>. By allocating up to \u20ac9.60\/day in meal allowance cards, you can see: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Total TSU exemption<\/strong> for the company;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Total exemption from IRS and TSU<\/strong> for the employee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This measure aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/employee-benefits\/meal-allowance-how-to-support-employees-and-minimize-the-impact-of-inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">maximize workers&#8217; disposable income<\/a> at a time when the rising cost of living &#8211; particularly in food &#8211; continues to have a strong impact on families&#8217; budgets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-tertiary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5373f631d5781a4ea5663a356b8bd6d9\"><em><strong>Note<\/strong>: in December 2024, the maximum amount exempt from card taxation will be \u20ac10.20\/day.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"After the government announced an interim increase in the meal allowance for the public sector on March 24th, this measure has now come into force.
