And they can do this in two ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In <strong>cash<\/strong> (together with the monthly salary);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>voucher or card<\/strong> form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Meal card characteristics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The meal card is an electronic card loaded by the company with the <strong>amount of meal allowance to be given to the employee each month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This amount is available to be used for food expenses and, if it is not spent in the month in which it was allocated, it accumulates for the following month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Providing <strong>meal allowances by card<\/strong> is an <strong>increasingly popular option for companies<\/strong>, as it has several advantages over cash allowances. One of the main ones is the inherent <strong>tax benefits <\/strong>, both for the company and the employee. But there are others. Check them out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages for the company<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Total exemption from TSU<\/strong> up to a maximum of \u20ac10.20\/day (which can result in savings of up to \u20ac241\/year per employee). <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/edenred-refeicao\/calculator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">You can do your simulation here<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased <strong>employee satisfaction and motivation<\/strong>, thanks to higher net disposable income.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved <strong>employee value proposition<\/strong> (EVP) as a result of this extra salary benefit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages for the employee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Total exemption from TSU and IRS<\/strong> up to a maximum of \u20ac10.20\/day, which contributes to <strong>greater purchasing power<\/strong> for food expenses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Improved quality of life, health and well-being<\/strong>, resulting from the use of the subsidy amount for meals or food.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f1f7ff\"><strong>Example<\/strong>: Let&#8217;s say you give an employee \u20ac10.20\/day as a meal allowance (x 22 working days x 11 months). If this amount is paid in cards, the employee receives an annual amount of \u20ac2,468.40. But if it&#8217;s paid in cash, the amount can be as little as \u20ac2 153.32 (with an IRS rate of 21% and a TSU rate of 11%).
