Come and find out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read also<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/human-resources\/employee-training-an-investment-not-a-cost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Employee training: an investment, not a cost<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Are companies obliged to provide ongoing training for employees?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/informador.pt\/legislacao\/lexit\/codigos\/direito-laboral\/codigo-do-trabalho\/livro-i-parte-geral-2\/titulo-ii-contrato-de-trabalho\/capitulo-i-disposicoes-gerais-46\/seccao-vii-direitos-deveres-e-garantias-das-partes\/subseccao-ii-formacao-profissional\/artigo-131-o-formacao-continua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Article 131 of C\u00f3digo do Trabalho<\/a>, the employer must promote the development and qualification of employees and ensure that each of them has the &#8220;individual right to training, through a minimum annual number of training hours&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This minimum number corresponds to <strong>40 hours each year<\/strong>. In the case of fixed-term contracts of three months or more, the minimum number of hours must be proportional to the duration of the contract in the same year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 40 hours of continuous training per year must be made available to at least <strong>10% of the company&#8217;s employees<\/strong>. In other words, although the law provides for annual training, this can be carried out over a period of 2 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Are vocational training hours paid for?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers must bear all the costs of training their employees. In addition, the 40 hours of training <strong>must be paid as working hours<\/strong>. In practice, when employees are undergoing training, it is as if they were working as normal.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the training takes place outside of working hours, the employee must be compensated for the hours spent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the mandatory continuing training hours are not completed within 2 years of the employee&#8217;s salary, they result in a credit of hours for training on the employee&#8217;s initiative and count as working hours, entitling the employee to remuneration <a href=\"https:\/\/informador.pt\/legislacao\/lexit\/codigos\/direito-laboral\/codigo-do-trabalho\/livro-i-parte-geral-2\/titulo-ii-contrato-de-trabalho\/capitulo-i-disposicoes-gerais-46\/seccao-vii-direitos-deveres-e-garantias-das-partes\/subseccao-ii-formacao-profissional\/artigo-132-o-credito-de-horas-e-subsidio-para-formacao-continua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(Article 132 of C\u00f3digo do Trabalho<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the event of termination of the employment contract, the employee must receive the training hours not taken up until then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/education-and-training\/the-importance-of-training-personal-and-professional-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Investing in your training and professional development<\/a> can help you stay motivated, feel more fulfilled and achieve certain career goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you&#8217;d like to do some training, acquire or improve a skill, share your desire with the people in charge of your company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Continuous professional training is a key element in the success of workers and companies.
