The aim is to promote lifelong learning and the development of skills that are important in the labor market. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is it so important to develop talent?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Aspects such as the digital transition or sustainability, for example, have posed numerous challenges for companies. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/social\/main.jsp?langId=en&amp;catId=89&amp;newsId=10431&amp;furtherNews=yes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Commission<\/a>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More than three-quarters of organizations in the European Union admit to having difficulty <strong>hiring workers with the desired skills<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only 37% of adults receive <strong>regular training<\/strong> (Eurostat).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 out of 10 adults lack <strong>basic digital skills<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu\/en\/policies\/digital-skills-and-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Economy and Society Digitality Index<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>28 sectors of activity &#8211; from construction to health, engineering or information technology &#8211; have shown <strong>difficulty in recruiting and hiring specialized and qualified talent<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/social\/main.jsp?langId=en&amp;catId=89&amp;newsId=10431&amp;furtherNews=yes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Commission<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This context reinforces the importance of adopting measures aimed at <strong>investing in the skills of human capital<\/strong>, not only to increase the competitiveness of companies, but also to <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/education-and-training\/the-importance-of-training-personal-and-professional-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">promote their personal development<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do you want to promote lifelong learning?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through a collective effort of the various entities involved, the European Commission aims to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promote investment in the training and retraining of workers;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that the skills acquired meet the needs of the job market;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Matching people&#8217;s skills, interests and aspirations to existing job opportunities, with a focus on sustainability, digital transition and economic recovery;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attracting people with the necessary skills from other geographies to the countries of the European Union, facilitating their mobility and the recognition of their qualifications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goals to be achieved<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The above measures have very clear objectives, set within the framework of the <a href=\"https:\/\/commission.europa.eu\/strategy-and-policy\/priorities-2019-2024\/europe-fit-digital-age\/europes-digital-decade-digital-targets-2030_pt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EU&#8217;s Digital Decade.<\/a> These goals are set at the level of people&#8217;s skills, the digital transformation of companies, the security and sustainability of infrastructures and the digitization of public services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Union&#8217;s goal is for <strong>80% of adults to have basic digital skills<\/strong> <strong>by 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies play a fundamental role in this effort to promote workers&#8217; skills, and they should <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/human-resources\/employee-training-an-investment-not-a-cost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see training their employees as an investment<\/a> that will boost creativity, innovation, productivity and competitiveness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The European Commission has decided that 2023 will be the European Year of Skills.
