An inclusive workplace is a place where there is respect and acceptance for diversity, fairness, safety and a sense of belonging.   <\/p>\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.randstad.com\/workmonitor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Randstad&#8217;s Workmonitor 2025<\/a> study, inclusion is one of the aspects that people value most in companies and, as such, helps to promote the retention and involvement of professionals.  <\/p>\n\n<p>But given that <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/human-resources\/diversity-inclusion-equity-dei-7-metrics-to-monitor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inclusion in the workplace can be subjective and difficult to measure<\/a>, what characterizes an inclusive organizational culture in practice? Discover with us six facts that should be part of an inclusive workplace. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1 &#8211; Accessibility<\/h2>\n\n<p>When we talk about accessibility, we&#8217;re talking about <strong>infrastructure<\/strong> and <strong>resources<\/strong>. On the one hand, it is a basic principle to ensure that the workplace is accessible to people with reduced mobility or some kind of disability. <\/p>\n\n<p>On the other hand, all workers in the organization must have access to the work material and resources they need to carry out their duties.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2 &#8211; Sense of belonging<\/h2>\n\n<p>A company&#8217;s employees tend to develop this sense of belonging only when they feel <strong>respected, valued and encouraged to express their individuality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>When this happens, their involvement and sense of belonging contribute positively to their motivation and satisfaction and to their interest in staying with the organization.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 &#8211; Empathetic leadership<\/h2>\n\n<p>Empathy is one of the most important traits in a healthy and inclusive working environment. And although it has to be transversal throughout the organization, it must necessarily be cultivated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/human-resources\/9-characteristics-that-distinguish-good-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leadership<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n<p>Managers should maintain an available and approachable posture, demonstrating that members of their teams can be comfortable <strong>sharing their ideas, opinions, problems or questions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>In addition, they must promote a culture of feedback and recognition, accompanying people consistently and celebrating their successes.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4 &#8211; Development opportunities<\/h2>\n\n<p>Inclusion is also seen in access to skills development opportunities. Companies that <a href=\"https:\/\/edenred.pt\/en\/news\/human-resources\/employee-training-an-investment-not-a-cost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">invest in training their professionals<\/a> show that they care about their growth and progression. <\/p>\n\n<p>This access to development opportunities must be widespread and equal, i.e. all employees must be able to access resources that enable them to <strong>reach their potential<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5 &#8211; Collaborative environment<\/h2>\n\n<p>Collaboration is a key element for business success and also a determining aspect of inclusive workplaces. Collaborative environments encourage people to share their perspectives and show that <strong>all contributions are welcome<\/strong> to boost creativity, innovation and growth. <\/p>\n\n<p>When people feel comfortable and open to expressing their beliefs and suggestions, cooperation and unity are maximized. As such, inclusion and collaboration are closely linked. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6 &#8211; Recognition and appreciation<\/h2>\n\n<p>Making employees feel valued is one of the main objectives of organizations that actively promote inclusion in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n<p>People like to be <strong>recognized for their performance<\/strong> and the value they add to the team and the company.
