Want to change jobs in 2025? These are some of the most sought-after areas
18 de December, 2024
The job market is highly dynamic, as a result of the changes that are taking place in the world. As societies change, it’s natural that existing professions have to adapt and new ones emerge.
This has always been the case, and today it is happening at an increasingly rapid pace. Rapid technological development is a key factor in the creation and enhancement of certain jobs, but it is not the only one. Aspects such as the socio-economic context (such as the rising cost of living and the economic slowdown) or the wider application of ESG criteria in companies, for example, also have a strong impact on the world of work.
In this regard, the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs Report 2023” made a five-year forecast of the jobs that are experiencing the greatest growth and those that are declining the most.
Discover some of the areas that are already in high demand by employers and are expected to continue to be valued in the near future.
Areas most sought after by companies
Information and communication technology (ICT) jobs are the fastest growing and have the most job vacancies. In a world where technology changes every second, it is inevitable that companies – both small and large – will have to adapt, not only to meet the needs of their customers but also to respond to their own internal challenges.
As such, many of the profiles most sought after by companies are related to technology. But there are others too.
1 – Artificial intelligence and machine learning
With the emergence of new artificial intelligence tools, companies are looking for talents who know how to use them and make the most of their potential. According to Forbes, by 2025, having AI skills will be as important as having digital literacy.
Being “fluent” in artificial intelligence means knowing how to give the right coordinates to get the best results, while at the same time not neglecting certain human skills that AI cannot replicate.
2 – Sustainability
According to the World Economic Forum report, having a workforce with sustainability skills is essential if organizations are to achieve their ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) goals.
The pressure on companies to adopt more sustainable and socially responsible practices is increasing, as the market and legislation itself tend to be stricter. In fact, the obligation to report their actions and results in terms of ESG will become a reality for many companies in the coming years.
Therefore, skills in this area – such as environmental and social awareness, responsible innovation, among others – will become a trend in the coming year.
3 – Cybersecurity
As the world becomes more connected, cyber threats are also spreading. Companies face the challenge and need to ensure that their operations are safe and protected from possible attacks.
In this context, the hiring of cybersecurity professionals – such as cybersecurity specialists or information security analysts – has been on the rise. It is estimated that by 2025 there will be 3.5 million vacancies in this area worldwide, which is 350% more than in the last eight years.
4 – Fintech
The term “Fintech” refers to financial technology, i.e. platforms and software that allow companies and consumers to manage their finances digitally. This combination of technology and finance has led to new jobs and this growth is expected to continue.
Professionals with profiles linked to programming and finance, who can develop solutions for digital payments, risk analysis and automated investments, will therefore be valued.
5 – Data analysis
The World Economic Forum’s report predicted an increase of between 30% and 35% in the demand for profiles linked to data analysis between 2023 and 2027. These profiles include, for example, data analysts and scientists, big data specialists, business intelligence analysts, data engineers, among others.
This increase is easy to understand given the growing digitalization of business, which brings with it a large volume of data – from customers, sales, employees, among many others – that companies need to know how to store, work with and use in order to make more informed and effective decisions.
6 – Digital transformation
Since technology is expected to be the major driver of innovation and growth in the most diverse sectors of activity, companies can be expected to look for professionals with the skills to carry out this same innovation.
Fostering digital transformation, and managing it effectively, will be a critical topic for organizations in 2025 – and beyond. As such, digital transformation specialists will be a very valuable asset for companies.
But being an expert in digital transformation involves much more than adopting the latest technologies. On the contrary, it involves a strategic vision that gives technology a central role in responding to business challenges, that favors a culture of creativity and agility, and that regularly evaluates the effectiveness of initiatives so that there is a balance between innovation and risk management.
