Back to school: Which Edenred benefit best suits your needs?

6 de September, 2024

With the arrival of September comes the need to prepare for the return to school.

If you have children, and depending on their age, you may have to buy textbooks and school supplies, pay nursery fees, school fees or university fees.

For those – with children or not – who are thinking of investing in developing their skills, it may be necessary to sign up for courses or training or to buy books, for example.

Whatever stage of life you’re at, or whatever your goals are at the moment, there’s an Edenred benefit to suit your back-to-school needs. Find out which one!

1 – Payment for crèches, nurseries and the like

Do you have children or dependents under the age of 7? Then you can use Edenred Creche to cover the cost of nurseries, day-care centers, kindergartens and similar establishments.

This benefit is fully exempt from IRS and Social Security for its recipients, which means that it provides greater purchasing power compared to the same amount in cash.

So, given that childcare costs tend to represent a large slice of a family’s monthly budget, Edenred Creche can be a decisive help.

More than 3,200 public and private establishments in Portugal accept Edenred Creche payments, which can be made 100% digitally via the MyEdenred App wallet.

2 – Payment for schools, colleges and universities

If you need to pay tuition fees at schools, colleges or universities, Edenred Estudante is the benefit you should use. With total exemption from Social Security, it results in more disposable income to pay for professional training or education expenses for children aged 7 and over.

So, if your company has granted you this benefit, you can use it if you have children or dependents of school age or if you want to invest in your own training (undergraduate, postgraduate, masters, etc.).

Available in a 100% digital wallet format, Edenred Estudante allows you to make payments via the MyEdenred App in more than 2,800 public and private establishments in Portugal. Some examples are Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Universidade Europeia and Instituto Politécnico do Porto.

3 – Payments to training centers, language schools and the like

If your vocational training goals don’t necessarily involve university, but rather more technical training, then Edenred Flexível could be the right benefit for you. This card is accepted at numerous training centers, language schools and more.

In addition, if you need the support of tutoring centers or study centers to monitor the school performance of your children or dependents, you can also use Edenred Flexible.

This benefit can be used in physical format – to make payments with the card at participating establishments – or it can be used to pay for courses and training online, via MB WAY.

For example, you can use Edenred Flexível to pay for English courses at Wall Street English, to develop skills at Escola de Negócios Business School or to subscribe to the Escola Virtual digital platform, with an educational offer from pre-school to 12th grade.

In addition to accepting payments with Edenred Flexível, these three entities also have exclusive advantages for Edenred users.

4 – Purchase of books, school materials and computer study aids

Before the start of the new school year, you may need to buy textbooks, books recommended in the National Reading Plan or other school support books.

In this case you can also use the Edenred Flexível card, which is accepted at numerous stationery and bookstores, such as Bertrand, FNAC, WOOK or Porto Editora, for example. You can choose to make your purchases with Edenred Flexível in physical stores – using the card or MB WAY – or buy online, also using MB WAY.

In addition to books and textbooks, you can also use this benefit to buy school supplies and computer support equipment, such as computers. You can do this at stores such as Staples or Note!

In total, Edenred Flexível can be used in more than 3,500 participating establishments in Portugal. With total exemption from Social Security, this benefit allows you to increase liquidity, not only in education and professional training expenses, but also in health and social support.
