Edenred’s FOOD 2026 Barometer: Take the Survey on Eating Habits in Portugal

22 de July, 2026

At Edenred, we believe that promoting healthier, more balanced, and more sustainable eating habits is also a way to improve people’s quality of life at work and in their daily lives. That’s why we’re once again launching a new edition of the FOOD Barometer, an annual study that helps us better understand eating habits, consumer expectations, and the perspective of food service establishments regarding the demand for more balanced options.

Whether you’re a consumer or a restaurant owner, your participation is essential.

What is the FOOD Barometer?

The FOOD Barometer is an annual survey conducted as part of the FOOD Program, an initiative coordinated by Edenred since 2009 with the goal of promoting a balanced diet during the workday and facilitating access to healthier and more sustainable food choices.

Every year, the barometer provides valuable insights into behaviors, expectations, and trends. This active engagement with stakeholders is part of how Edenred deepens its understanding of the market and develops concrete initiatives in the area of healthy and sustainable eating.

How can you participate?

One of the great strengths of the FOOD Barometer is that it brings together two complementary perspectives: that of the consumer and that of the service provider.

1 – Consumer Participation

Your response will help us understand better:

  • Your eating habits and preferences;
  • What do you value most about eating out;
  • The importance he places on healthy and balanced choices;
  • How price influences your choices;
  • His sensitivity to issues such as sustainability and food waste.

2 – Participation by restaurants

If you run a restaurant, café, deli, or other food retail establishment, your perspective is also essential.

This questionnaire provides a better understanding of:

  • How has the demand for balanced meals evolved?;
  • What kinds of concerns do customers express;
  • How do establishments view healthy and sustainable eating;
  • What are the challenges faced in terms of supply, operations, and food waste?

Results announcement

The results of the FOOD 2026 Barometer will be released in November. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the key findings and food trends in Portugal and other countries around the world.

In the meantime, take a look at the results of the FOOD 2025 Barometer.

The FOOD Barometer in the Context of the FOOD Program

The FOOD Program—Fighting Obesity through Offer and Demand—was launched in 2009 with the support of the European Union and is coordinated by Edenred. In Portugal, the program is supported by the Direção-Geral da Saúde (DGS), the Portuguese Directorate-General for Health. The initiative aims to promote a balanced diet among workers and encourage access to healthier options, while also involving restaurants and Edenred’s institutional partners.

Since its inception, the program has produced hundreds of communication tools and initiatives, reaching millions of workers, businesses, and restaurants in various countries. In addition, it has helped strengthen a network of establishments committed to providing more balanced dietary recommendations.
